North East Edin Elderly Care Action Group (NEECAG) is a Forum for older people, carers and those who work with them in Portobello area.

North East Edinburgh Care Action Group (NEECAG) was formed in 1995.

The main purpose of the Group is to give older people the opportunity to discuss Health and Community Care issues in a more organised way to make their views known to relevant bodies. Following consultation, key aims and objectives for the group were agreed.

AIM

To improve services for older people in Portobello, Craigmillar and Craigentinny/ Duddingston areas area through increased consultation and involvement of older people and their carers.

OBJECTIVES

- To enable older people in Portobello and surrounds to gain information on Community Care and other services for older people and to raise issues and concerns with relevant professional bodies, as well as helping older people to gain access to services by giving help, advice and encouragement.
- To establish a means of making regular contributions to service planners and providers

MEMBERSHIP

Older people, carers and those who work with them in the Portobello, Craigmillar and Craigentinny/ Duddingston areas

The Group currently meets in Piershill library on a monthly basis (the last Tuesday of the month) for a cup of tea/coffee, a chat and some lively discussion! NEECAG currently has a mailing list of over 50 individuals and groups with approximately 25 – 30 older people and those who care for them attending each meeting.

Refreshments are provided and help with transport and other care needs may be available on request.
