information SERVICE DETAILS

Big Hearts’ Neuro Stars is a weekly support group for young people aged 5-16, who have a neurodivergent diagnosis or are in the process of diagnosis, and their parents or carers.

The group is run in partnership with Lifelong Learning Parent Carer support (CEC) at the City of Edinburgh Council.

Neuro Stars aims to address the social, emotional, and practical challenges facing neurodiverse young people and their families, offering a supportive and inclusive environment where they can connect, learn, and thrive.

In each session, young people take part in a range of engaging activities, including messy play, arts and crafts and indoor and outdoor sports, which are led by our skilled team of youth workers.

Parents and carers have the opportunity to take some time for themselves in our adult group, where our experienced family support staff will help them to connect with others and offer tailored advice and information on a range of issues relevant to the group.

Big Hearts key outcomes for young people are:

- To grow their support network by building friendships with peers.
- To increase confidence through trying new things and different activities.
- To become more resilient.

Big Hearts key outcomes for parents and carers are:

- To feel less isolated.
- To feel more confident in the parenting/caring role.
- To feel better able to cope.
- To access specialist support.

Project times & info:

Neuro Stars take place from 2:00pm - 3:30pm every Friday in The Shed at Tynecastle Park, the home of Heart of Midlothian FC.
