COVID-19UPDATE...

Due to Coronavirus we have unfortunately had to temporarily suspend our community connecting service.
Coronavirus has dramatically changed life for everyone. This is a really hard time for older people who need to stay at home, especially anyone who lives alone, who doesn’t have family nearby or who can't get online. While our community connecting service is on hold, we continue to support older people in other ways and have compiled a list of useful resources at https://www.ageuk.org.uk/scotland/what-we-do/tackling-loneliness/community-connecting.

Community Connecting is an innovative service that directly helps isolated older people get involved in activities in their local communities. It has a huge positive impact on their quality of life.

The Community Connecting Service aims to tackle loneliness and isolation in older people. We do this through matching older adults with community services that offer friendship, social activities, health and fitness groups and events based on their interests.

It is a support service for older people helping them join in with local opportunities and activities. Volunteers help you to identify things you would like to do and support you to start doing them.

Often people use this service because they have become isolated or not been able to do things they used to enjoy. You might have lost confidence after a fall, illness or bereavement.

The need has never been greater. Our research has shown that 240,000 people in Scotland regard the television or a pet as their closest companion.

The Age Scotland Community Connecting Service will help you to make contact with community services that offer friendship, social activities, health and fitness groups and events. Our friendly volunteers will contact you to find out your interests, provide you with information and contact details and, if required and where possible, community transport options in your area.

Our volunteers will keep in touch with calls of encouragement and friendship should you need some extra support. They will provide you with an opportunity to discuss any other services available and where relevant, make contact with local services on your behalf.

Call us now on 0800 12 44 222 to find out more.

The Age Scotland Community Connecting service aims to tackle social isolation and loneliness across Scotland by ensuring that details of what is available locally can be easily accessed. This can be requested by contacting the Age Scotland Helpline but also through useful guides which are available as PDF files listed on https://www.ageuk.org.uk/scotland/what-we-do/community-connecting.

Community Connecting is a FREE Service offering older people personalised solutions to the problems of social isolation.

If you, or someone you know, could benefit from a Community Connecting service.
