information DESCRIPTION

Scottish Veterans Residences (SVR) is a Registered Scottish Charity (SC015260) established in 1910 in reaction to the sight of veterans sleeping rough on the streets of Edinburgh. SVR’s operational arm is Scottish Veterans Housing Association (SVHA) which provides high quality, supported accommodation for veterans who are homeless or in need. We house ex-service men and women of all ages in residences in Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow.

As well as accommodation we provide a housing support service and at Bellrock Close a transitional support programme.

Scottish Veterans Residences is Scotland's oldest ex-Service charity. It was founded as a charity in 1910 by two Seaforth Highlanders, Charles Pelham Burn and Chilton Lind Addison Smith, having seen the squalor under which veterans of the day existed in Edinburgh.

SVR provides unique and unrivalled residential accommodation for our ex-service men and women of all ages. Each year we help some 300 ex-service men and women and their spouses.

Scottish Veterans Residences first opened its doors on 1 January 1911 and through both world wars and modern day conflicts in Korea, the Falklands and the Gulf our Residences have met the needs of some 60,000 ex-servicemen and women. Their needs today remain as strong as ever.

Today, we provide an unrivalled level of residential accommodation where each veteran has his or her own fully furnished en suite accommodation and lives in a supportive community environment.

As long as we have Armed Forces there will be a need for the services of Scottish Veterans Residences. To continue to meet the needs of our veterans we are dependent upon your generosity.

Scottish Veterans Housing Association is the operating arm of Scottish Veterans' Residences.

Scottish Veterans' Housing Association Ltd owns and manages two main residences of Whitefoord House located on Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile, Rosendael situated in Broughty Ferry, Dundee and now in the new Bellrock Close development in Glasgow.
