Are you the parent or carer of a child who is deaf or has a hearing impairment? Do you live in or around the East of Scotland?
About our group
The Deaf Children’s Society of East Scotland (DCSES) is affiliated to NDCS. It is run on a voluntary basis by a very small committee of parents and supporters who are keen to make a difference to the lives of deaf children and their families in the area. Our group supports parents/carers of deaf children from birth to 18 years of age. We are looking for new members to join our committee.
Aims and activities
DCSES was formed in the 1950s. From the 1980s until summer 2003, the Society was run from an office in Edinburgh, and employed a part-time Information Officer to support families and help them access NDCS services in Scotland and London.
The Deaf Children’s Society of East Scotland organises social activities and events for deaf children and their families in Edinburgh and the Lothians, giving opportunities for families to meet and support each other.
Our aim as a group is to help families of deaf children. We have a Christmas party every year which is usually well attended. We also buy panto tickets for which we give every deaf child 2 free tickets and an option to buy more tickets for additional family members. We held a climbing day which was very successful and hope to have more next year.
