A restful home

Cosy and caring, Marian House is one of our smaller homes. It’s set within the Grange, a highly desirable part of Edinburgh and is decorated in neutral and calming colours throughout to reflect the tranquillity of the area. Its lovely sheltered walled garden is a place for quiet contemplation or enjoyment with friends and is part covered so you can appreciate it come rain or shine. It’s directly accessed from the main lounge via French doors and the grassed spaces, trees and a sensory area are a favourite with the residents.

Marian House is an inviting, friendly home with a flexible programme of activities for all to enjoy. Whether tending to the vegetable patch, a morning in the Craft Café, or out and about in one of our regular bus trips, the choice is yours. Our Activities Coordinator is on hand to help design a plan that is right for you. Restful and intimate, Marian House offers first class nursing care in a beautiful setting.

All our rooms are single - occupancy, ensuite with wet floor showers. Our rooms are furnished with variable height electric beds and furnished with bed side locker, fitted wardrobes, telephone connection facility, are WiFi enabled and can accommodate the resident’s own TV and personal electronic equipment. Each unit has an assisted bathroom.

Subject to fire safety regulations, residents can if they choose, bring small personal items of furniture, such as a reclining chair and decorative items in order to personalise their room. All our rooms comply with the National Care Standards.

Our gardens are designed to create a dementia friendly landscape for our residents where they can enjoy time with family and friends.

In collaboration with Impact Arts we provide a unique Craft Café experience where our residents are supported to explore their artistic skills. In addition, the home has a weekly activities programme, including outings in our own minibus.

Facilities:

35 en-suite rooms, Public lounges, Courtyard garden, Dementia friendly, signageTherapy, pet visits, Hairdressing, Laundry service, Delivery of newspapers and magazines, Wi-fi.

Nursing and Dementia Care

Here at Marian House, your wellbeing is our top priority so we provide trained nursing staff supported by care staff 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We’re fully aware that making the decision to come in to a Care Home can be a stressful prospect for both you and your family, which is why we offer a caring, individual service that’s tailored to each and every one of our residents. We’ll get to know you and your life story, your likes and dislikes and your personal wishes will guide our work. We’re here to provide joy in later years and believe it’s important that this time is cherished and lived to the full.

Staffing arrangements

Marian House has 35 bedrooms on 2 floors. Usually the staffing arrangements for each floor is a minimum of 1 trained Nurse (RGN) and 3 Care Assistants during the day, all of whom have achieved or working towards an SVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care. At night the home has 4 staff, 1 of whom is a trained Nurse and 3 Care Assistants. The Registered Nurse assesses the needs of the residents and decides if and when extra Care Assistants are needed if the residents' needs change. In addition, we have a 24-hour nurse call system in our residents' rooms. We also make use of automated monitoring technology to ensure residents' safety and minimise the risk of falls. We have a dedicated Activities Coordinator who organises internal and external activities and outings for all residents who wish to participate.

Visitors

We always welcome visits from family and friends and you can drop by at any time during the day or evening, subject to the care and rest needs of individual residents.

We are always happy to arrange visits for prospective residents and their families.
