Group Work & Peer Support
Recognising that it can be a lonely time for families affected by imprisonment, Families Outside hosts a number of peer support groups throughout Scotland, these are carried out in a range of community-based environments and have included online sessions where necessary and appropriate.
The groups encourage children, young people, and adults who are impacted by a family members imprisonment to come together and support each other through their shared experiences. This safe, confidential space allows those who attend to share their own coping mechanisms and talk about their emotions. This improves their own well-being and empowers them to deal with challenging, and often complex situations.
We also publish Activity Packs (please see https://www.familiesoutside.org.uk/families/group-work-peer-support) with lots of fun activities that children and families can do together at home or during a virtual visit with their family member in prison.
Our groups are based around activities and are constantly being developed.
