Velotech courses

Achieve a recognised professional mechanics qualification. .

We run Velotech Awards maintenance courses in our Edinburgh branche. These are accredited maintenance courses recognised by the Bicycle Association. Successful participants will receive either the Gold, Silver or Bronze Award, a recognised professional mechanics qualification.

Velotech Bronze...

This two day training course requires a basic knowledge of bikes and components.

Cost: £360

Duration: 2 days

The course will include:

- Workshop practices, Health and Safety, British Standards and Pre-Delivery Inspection documents.
- Assessing and adjusting a bicycle.
- Assessing and basic procedures around wheels, tyres and inner tubes.
- Gear adjustment
- Brake adjustment
- Bearing adjustment
- Using a torque wrench

There is a multiple-choice question paper at the end of the course as part of the accreditation process.

Level: Beginner

Velotech Silver...

This two day training course requires a basic knowledge of bikes and components.

Cost: £360

Duration: 2 days

The course will include:

- Replacing cables for brakes and gears
- Replacing brake pads and correctly setting the brake.
- Replacing a chain and cassette
- Indexing gears
- Replacing headset and bottom brackets

At the end of the course, there is a multiple-choice question paper and practical assessment as part of the accreditation process.

Level: Intermediate

Velotech Gold...

This two day training course requires a basic knowledge of bikes and components.

Cost: £360

Duration: 2 days

The course will include:

- Fault finding and troubleshooting.
- Replacing a broken spoke and truing a wheel
- Replacing and compatibility of components on a bicycle.
- Bleeding a Shimano hydraulic brake
- Strip, service, maintain or replacing hubs, headset and bottom brackets

At the end of the course, there is a multiple-choice question paper and practical assessment as part of the accreditation process.

Level: Intermediate
