Butterflies Plus

Prior to lockdown Inchkeith/Inchgarvie in the Marchmont St Giles’ Church Centre was turned into a vibrant dining space to host a lunch for anyone over the age of 60, offering an opportunity to eat good food, catch up with friends or make new ones.

The set menu offered a choice of one or two courses at a cost of £4.00 or £7.00 respectively, including tea or coffee and mints to finish the meal. The lunches were served to diners at their tables, by a team of volunteers.

A Café for everyone...

We work closely with the Families and Children’s Worker and the ministerial team to support vulnerable families and groups on a daily basis. We pride ourselves on making space for everyone and providing for everyone’s needs. We work closely with local health providers who send post-natal groups to us for support and encouragement.

We believe we do business differently we focus on supporting and helping our community by providing our customers with a safe, caring and welcoming space. By keeping our costs low it allows many of our customers to come daily and we believe we have built genuine connections and friendships with many of our customers. Many people who drop in to the Butterflies Café come to us for advice, we offer a non-judgemental ear and frequently a shoulder to cry on and a cuddle.

Facilities

Our facilities are for all age groups from young to old and are very flexible – menu for little ones to a range of toys, books and a long corridor which is great for racing sit-on toys! No tutting is allowed at the noise, fun and excitement that this café brings. A variety of comfy chairs for breastfeeding mums or the elderly who need a hand to get up ensure there is something for everyone.

Aims

We long for the day when we can continue to continue to build relationships with all who use our church centre and aims to provide even more support to vulnerable and intergenerational groups.

Striving to be more than just a café by serving our local and wider community is what we aim to do every minute.
