information DESCRIPTION

We play duplicate bridge nearly every Thursday evening throughout the year at St Margaret's Court, Juniper Green. We aim to play competitive bridge but in a friendly atmosphere in which less experienced players can both enjoy themselves and improve.

Prospective members are welcome to come along as visitors to find out more about the club.

The club is affiliated to the Scottish Bridge Union and has a team playing in Division 2 of the East District League.

A SHORT HISTORY OF PENTLAND BRIDGE CLUB

Pentland Bridge Club held its first meeting in the Masonic Hall in Currie on Thursday 29th November 1973 playing from September through to April. The membership grew quickly and when it reached 50 a waiting list had to be put in place. The Club became so popular that an afternoon bridge club was started and played on Mondays in Balerno High School. This afternoon club is still running successfully today playing in the Gibson Craig Hall in Currie.

In 1980 the club became a member of the SBU and formed a team of eight to play in the SBU East of Scotland League. Starting in Division 5 and spending many years in Division 3 the team has been playing in Division 2 in recent times.

As the Masonic Hall in Currie could no longer accommodate Pentland it moved in 1983 to its current venue at St Margaret's Court in Juniper Green. Round about 1991 some members wanted to keep playing bridge during the summer months and started to play, first in Balerno Community Centre and, as demand increased, in 1993 moved to St Margaret's Court. Pentland then became a year-round club.

The club now has around 40 members and averages 7 tables per week. It has recently adopted a system of pre-dealt hands and internet based scoring.
