information DESCRIPTION

Burdiehouse Burn Valley Park is a beautiful local nature reserve. It stretches from Gilmerton Road, at Ellen's Glen, to the A701 Straiton Road at Burdiehouse village, passing through Moredun Woods, Gilmerton Dykes and the estates of Southhouse and Burdiehouse, and is popular with walkers and cyclists alike. As well as woodland walks, it contains a wildflower meadow, and a play area which includes a skate park, and is home to birds and bats.

Set up in 2008, the Friends of Burdiehouse Burn Valley Park is a small a but enthusiastic group of supporters who work with the City of Edinburgh Council and local residents to help look after and improve the park. Burdiehouse Burn Valley Park has an array of great areas to explore from mature woodland to more open grassland, but many local residents still don't know that it's there or how lovely it is. The park is twice the size of Princes Street Gardens and stretches from Gilmerton Road in the South all the way up to Burdiehouse Road two miles to the south west.

The Friends group are involved in activities that help to look after the park, such as monthly burn clean-ups, Himalayan Balsam clearing, wild flower planting and bird and bat box installation and maintenance.
