information DESCRIPTION

Our service is simple. We offer a free of charge transport service to the NHS as a way of ‘giving something back’. Our service is run by volunteers in their own time. #itswhatwedo. Blood Bikes Scotland support teams in both primary and secondary care including GPs, District Nurses, Care Homes and Community Hospitals as well as secondary care hospitals.

We deliver small urgent items that are required to be moved from one site to another or to a patient’s home in the community. By using motorbikes, we are able to move these items quicker than conventional four wheeled vehicles which is vital as many items are time critical. This service is provided in all weathers and always with a smile and in a professional, friendly, trusting manner. We provide an efficient and sustainable service that is patient focused and a pivotal support aspect to patient care both in the hospital setting and in the community.

Who do we help?

This service is well utilised and valued by NHS staff in both primary and secondary care and ultimately by patients and carers. BBS cover sites across NHS Lothian as well as the 2 hospices within the Lothian area.
